Fowles wine

Project overview

The Fowles Winery project had been a dream of Matt’s for many years. He wanted to create a place that was faithful to both his farm and vineyard and introduced a lot of complexity.

This Design and Construct project comprised a restaurant and cellar door with 700 people capacity and was Matt’s first commercial build. He wanted the project to reflect who they are as a farm and as a family, which required high levels of detail and custom craftsmanship.

Challenges

Matt’s initial brief was to have various components of the farm featured throughout the build and therefore wanted to use materials from the farm, which in itself was not a simple endeavour to undertake. The project had to convey who the Fowles were as a family and that DNA needed to be reflected throughout the project.

The most challenging part of this project was the fact that Matt did not have highly resolved plans when we started, which meant that we had to work on a Design and Construct basis and solve problems along the way, without compromising on the vision or final finish.

Matt’s major concern was having his vision realised without costly time delays or budget overruns.

Solutions

Our team had to work collaboratively with Matt to come up with interesting and carefully crafted details that reflected his family’s ethos and the farm. To bring heart and soul to the build, we searched around the vineyard and discovered old timber that was used in the trellis system and repurposed it to build the restaurant tables.

Our team pushed hard to bring the farm through the project, having to rely on our quality workmanship and custom detailing. Continual problem solving and coming up with solutions along the way became an enjoyable experience, which came naturally to our team and we believe that passion is demonstrated throughout the project.

With a background in luxury home builds, we were able to achieve the high level of quality and detailing that Matt desired, while immaculately presenting the repurposed materials used throughout the building.

Outcome

We worked with Matt collaboratively as a team to treat each issue as they arose and because of that approach, we feel we achieved a better overall result. No compromises were made and the project ended up being filled with really interesting and carefully crafted details.

Our team poured their heart and soul into the project and hit the timeline goal so that Fowles Winery was able to open on schedule.

The Fowles family has a story that goes right back into the farm and vineyard and we are proud to have helped them to bring life to this amazing project.
