Goulburn

Project overview

Michael and Kelda were renovating their existing Victorian Cottage in Seymour and were wanting to put a modern twist to the renovations.

They had strong concept ideas of what they wanted their family home to become to suit their family and social lifestyle.

Michael being a local cabinet maker, he and Grant had worked together previously on past projects which ignited them working together on his personal project.

Challenges

Renovations always come with their own set of challenges, often discovering older houses don’t quite line up with new works. In this case the existing house needed restumping and external walls being out of level. We had to adapt to these conditions to make the transition from old to new look and feel seamless and bring back the structural integrity of the existing home.

As the existing home was a heritage listed building, there were certain design constraints that needed to be adhered to. We needed to find the perfect balance between what Michael and Kelda wanted to achieve and what we could legally deliver.

Solutions

By completing our detailed site inspection we made Michael and Kelda aware of the challenges that we were going to face during the demolition stage and we set aside a budget for the potential unknowns we were going to face.

Heritage listed buildings and design constraints needed to be addressed during the design process with Council. This required an extra element of complexity during the design phase to ensure we were going to achieve building approval.

Outcome

We are pleased to say that the renovation was a success, the finish and the attention to detail we strive for was achieved throughout the renovation which resulted in a beautiful kitchen and living space for Michael and Keldas family and for them to enjoy.

Michael and Kelda now have space for their kids to play and the large sliding doors to their backyard allow them to feel connected to their kids when they are playing outside.
