Project overview
This was the first time building for Jacqui and Jess. They had a strong vision of what they wanted in a dream home and having a ‘kit set’ design was not going to be sufficient for them.
Hateley Construct came recommended by local community members and after browsing through our work and having a chat with Grant, they resonated with our flexible approach and custom process.
Challenges
With this project being their first time building, Jaqui and Jess had some initial apprehension, not knowing the process and what would be involved in building their dream home. Since they had no clearly defined plans, many aspects of the project had to be resolved along the way.
The couple desired to have an indoor/outdoor flow, have an earthy feel to the house and were recommended to build on the top ridge of their section to enjoy the beautiful views. Changing the building envelope from the bottom to the top of their land, in order to take advantage of the views and sunlight, meant there were some delays with council, which put their project behind schedule before it even started.
Solutions
Jacqui and Jess had seen our previous work and wanted to achieve a similar aesthetic feel to one of our projects, which meant they could trust that we understood what they wanted from our very first meeting.
The house had lots of floor to ceiling windows and glass doors, which could capture the beautiful views, bring in plenty of light and create openness throughout the house.
In order to further satisfy their brief, our material selection included the use of earthy bricks and concrete, along with the tiles which provided a very earthy feel.
Due to a well planned process, we were fortunate to not have any delays for steel or timber, which resulted in a seamless overall build.
Outcome
Jacqui and Jess were initially anxious about not having all the answers, but fortunately we were able to put them at ease by demonstrating our process and flexible approach.
They were confident that they could rely on our team’s craftsmanship and attention to detail, knowing their project mattered to us.
